Grade Checkers and Equipment Operators, Welcome!
I have checked grade from the seat of my truck, accurately, with this method.
The Grade Checking Press website was designed to help grade checkers develop new techniques that help them become better and more knowledgeable professionals at their trade. It is times like these that we have to find those special skills that will set us apart from the rest of the pack. The more skills you have, the more valuable you become. This is why I felt it was time to bring out my book on this revolutionary new technique that will save you more time and energy than you ever thought possible. Surveyors have known about these techniques for years but with the development of new technology, simple tools that go on your tool belt can give you the edge that will make you the best grade checker on the job.
I started this site because when I would try to find anything new under grade checking, I would inevitably wind up at the SAT site or a teachers institute for something or other, and I really had to dig for ANY information about "construction" grade checking. The information I did find was so old that most of those methods were used before I was born. It's not that the older ways are bad, I always thought there was a better way and that is the purpose of this website
We all know grading and excavation is very slow at this point. Keeping up on the latest and greatest innovations in the industry is pretty tough when you're not working. The real development in the industry has been the laser measuring devices that have hit the market. They have become relatively inexpensive for the time and energy they save. LMDs, combined with a clinometer and calculator, can transform how we check grade drastically. These are simple hand tools that can be carried with you on your tool belt or safety vest. I'm sure you already have the calculator. If this is something that relates to what you do in your occupation, or what you would like to do, you should definitely read on.
I have worked in the grading and excavation industry for almost 35 years. I started as a http://www.dragndropbuilder.com/weebly/main.php#mechanic, then an operator, grade checker, foreman, estimator, owned a rental equipment company and then became a class A licensed contractor which helps me to see many sides of the grading industry. That's my Dad and brother in the picture with me, both operating engineers and equipment owners. My grandfather was also an operator and equipment owner. There are some nephews and two uncles out there which means we had four generations and a lot of family in the trade. There have been a lot of changes but some things will always remain the same. A yard of dirt is a yard of dirt and it is still the standard that we estimate with. And the less money you spend getting it moved, the more profit you will make on the job.
Yes, I have a not so hidden motive for starting this site. I guess somebody has to or no one will be able to find this fantastic concept except for the few guys I have known personally who really wanted to know how I did that with a clinometer.
Most of the tools and the way we check grade have been around since I was first in the trade in 1977 but this book will lay out some new methods that could change the was you check grade forever. Take a look at the descriptions and I know that you will want this new technique to expand your experience, knowledge, to be safer and to save time and money.
This site will also have a blog that will post ideas and commentary on anything pertaining to grade checking and even the grading industry. We hope you will
come visit us often for updates.
Thanks for visiting the site and I look forward to your comments which can be entered on the contact page.
All the best,
Dave Vincent, nickname “White Elephant”
